In January of 2018 a furniture store on the bottom floor of the building on 1547 Commonwealth Avenue started a fire from an electric heater. The store workers placed the portal heater in a hazardous area on the bottom floor, causing the electric heater to catch fire. The employees did not notice the fires at first, so by the time rescue came, the fire had spread through the entire building. Entire apartments above the store were damaged, and several tenants suffered from smoke inhalation, burns, and PTSD. Attorney Vilensky reports that it was one of the worst fires he has seen.
Ronemus & Vilensky represent eighteen people from the property. The lawyers sued the landlords for their failure to maintain self-closing doors that deter fire from spreading rapidly. They also sued the furniture store because they had violated several building mandates. This case is still open, but Mr. Vilensky is confident that the suit will be successful and that his eighteen clients will receive the compensation they deserve.
