After years of abuse and countless victims, a convicted serial sexual predator is facing a slew of new charges in Manhattan federal court. Darius A. Paduch, a former urologist in the New York City area, was the target of 143 new civil cases in September, 2024.
Although he has not yet been sentenced by the court, Paduch was convicted in May, 2024 of 11 charges related to his ongoing sexual abuse of seven patients, including four individuals who were children for at least part of the time they were victimized. He had been indicted in April, 2024 and arrested then. As of now, Paduch and his attorneys are facing 310 civil cases filed against the disgraced medical professional and some of the healthcare operations he practiced at.
Medical Care, Torture, or Something Worse?
Darius Paduch worked as a urologist specializing in male reproductive health and male fertility from 2003 to 2023. During his time working in healthcare facilities in New York City, Paduch had a pattern of abuse stretching from at least 2007 through 2019. His acts took place at two New York healthcare institutions.
Under the guise of “medical care”, Paduch would conduct physical exams without the presence of a third-party, play pornographic videos for his victims, touch or grope victims, often without gloves or protective equipment, and induce some of his victims to travel interstate to attend specialized “appointments” with him. In some cases, he even exchanged sexually explicit texts and emails with some of his victims – including several who were minors when they were victimized. Throughout the indictment and conviction, the former medical professional has maintained his innocence.
Civil Cases and New Allegations
In the 143 new civil cases against Paduch, victims alleged that the former doctor sodomized some of his victims with sex toys as well as performing medical or surgical procedures without anesthetics in order to inflict pain. None of these procedures were considered medically necessary – or met the standard of care – yet the former doctor told his patients these procedures were required.
The 143 new cases in federal court join a suit previously filed against Paduch and his past employers. The original suit was filed on behalf of 167 plaintiffs. More victims are coming forward, claiming abuse and sexual torture at the hands of the “deviant criminal in a white lab coat,” to quote attorney Anthony T. DiPietro.
The new cases also name Weill Cornell and Northwell Health Systems as defendants, claiming those medical facilities knew of the sexual torture and abuse taking place and conspiring to conceal the crimes committed by Paduch. Both healthcare operations claim innocence, but both have implemented enhanced patient safety and personnel review programs since the sexual abuse allegations ame to light.
