Serious Apartment Fire in Bronx Injures 4 Firefighters

On October 8, 2021, at approximately 10 p.m. the FDNY received a call regarding a house fire in the Bronx. Upon arrival, the fire authorities witnessed multiple houses that were engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing from the top. The fire originally started on East 143rd Street, but quickly spread to three surrounding buildings.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene to manage the chaos and help put out the flames. In the haste of containing the scene and treating victims, four firefighters were injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment. They are all expected to make a full recovery.

It’s all too common for a house fire to spread rapidly to surrounding units and buildings. Stacked apartments and buildings in such close proximity can cause a neighboring building’s fire to spread to yours in a matter of minutes.

Holiday Fire Safety

This time of year is crucial to practice good fire safety. Fires can happen any day of the year, fires are more common around the holidays. Bitter cold weather and the use of portable heaters, overloading electrical systems for holiday lights, and cooking fires are the most common culprits of house fires.
